TED = Technology, Entertainment and Design. This is the second year that I am going to TED, this time in Palm Springs, having been at Long Beach as a TED Fellow in 2009.
TEDxCambridge
Other than y own conference, Better World by Design, this is one of the best designed conference that I have been to, and by far the best TEDx I’ve been to (I have been to TEDx all round the world). It has been a great afternoon, the speakers are great, there was a great variety of topics discussed. Back to paying attention to the amazing speakers. Join us live at the TEDxCambridge website or follow the tweets #TEDxC
Or just see the photos that I am taking from the conference live(ish)
TEDxEast
I had a blast at TEDxEast the past friday in New York City. It was a real treat to see both the founder, Richard Saul Wurman, and the current owner, Chris Anderson, of TED to be on the same stage, speaking about what they are passionate about. Then we had Baba, a rapper, rapping about evolutionary biology, and Suzanne Vega perform. In a nutshell, a great conference. Here are photos from TEDxEast.
TED Fellows x Nokia = Responsiveness Campaign
Here is the complete collection of the Nokia Responsiveness Campaign videos. These are inspirational videos of me and my fellow Fellows, enjoy:
Can Video Games change the world
As I am working with a company trying to engage kids to use their product, something struck me. Kids are exposed to all sorts of media these days, from social media, to game consoles, to online gaming, to good old TV. It struck me to how much time our generation and the upcoming generations are spending in the virtual world: learning, solving murders, saving lives and creating new worlds. What if we can transfer some of those experiences into reality?
Jane McGonigal spoke at TED this year about her vision of transforming the world through video games. She began her talk by throwing out some out some numbers to how many young people out there are playing video games, and they were staggering. And if we could tap into a fraction of the billions of people playing video games making a change in the video game world to cross over to make a change in this world, imagine what that impact would be:
Will Wright, designer of popular game titles such as Sim City, the Sims and Spore, see the power to educate kids through video games:
TEDxSingapore
It was an honor to be at TEDxSingapore when I was back in Singapore for the first time since getting the TED Fellowship in 2010. It was a tremendous atmosphere and was great to present my work in design to an audience of over 200 people. I was introduced as the first Singaporean Fellow and was giving a lot of attention the entire day, which I was not very used to. I did meet a bunch of really cool people at the event, and several collaboration opportunities arose and I am excited to see where these projects might go.
The speakers that spoke at the event were great too, from harnessing the consumers’ spending to get corporate companies to donate part of their earnings to better the world; to talking about the different TED conferences around the world; to a presentation given to highlight the worst of powerpoint presentations; to using social media in the right way; TEDxSingapore was a great platform to spread ideas in Singapore that many are not exposed to in the traditional media. I am currently in Sydney and will be traveling to Brisbane.
Ending TED with an Standing Inn-ovation

The closing talk by Ze Frank, summing up all the TED talks in a comically-entertaining 18 minutes. Definitely deserves a Standing Innovation!
